What are Rehabilitation and physical therapy?

The rehabilitation process helps in recovering from serious injury. It helps to recover the maximum function, health and strength lost due to the surgery, injury, diseases, or illness. Physical therapy helps in strength, mobility, and fitness of the person. In short, rehabilitation helps in recovery and removes the effects of surgery or illness. Physical therapy helps in further strengthening and functioning.  The rehabilitation process includes physical therapy and other therapies. During the Rehabilitation process, the doctors examine the patient's condition and plan his treatment plan, training which involves both mental and physical exercises (physical therapy).

How long does it take for physical therapy to work?

Normally physical therapy lasts until you reach your goal or until your therapists decide it enough. It normally takes 6 to 8 weeks to see the results in the soft tissue.

How many times a week you should attempt physical therapy?

Normally frequency for the physical therapy is 2 to 3 times per week. Your visit frequency will be decided based on your health condition. It will reduce by the course of time.

How long physical therapy last?

The typical physical therapy section will be between 30 to 60 minutes. The frequency and length of the therapy differ based on the problem you have. The techniques and exercise will change after some time.

What are the foods to eat during physical therapy?

It is advisable to eat fruits, vegetables, and low-fat foods. The DASH diet is effective during physical therapy which contains whole grains, nuts, etc...

Should I drink water after physical therapy?

After rehabilitation or physical therapy, the body will tend to release the wastes from the body. So it is advisable to drink more water after the process as this helps in the elimination of wastes. It will also reduce the soreness in the area. 

When should I use the ice?

It is better to use the ice or cold water after the physical therapy, due to the level pushing therapy your tissues may face microtears. Applying the ice or cold reduces the impact and pain.

Can I use Hot water?

Heat expands the muscle tissues and increases blood circulation. It is better to apply hot water before the therapy because it makes the process easier.  

Is it ok to feel pain after the therapy?

The physical therapy shouldn’t be painful. As you stretch the damaged tissues you may feel the pain during therapy. But if the pain gets worse after therapy you should inform the therapist.

Can I go to the gym after physical therapy?

After the successful completion of the rehabilitation process, you can go to the gym or yoga class if the therapist accepts it. It is better to inform your trainer about the rehabilitation process.

Is it really important to finish the rehabilitation process?

The Rehab process is important for the restoration of health. An incomplete or ineffective rehabilitation process may lead to further injury. If you can't continue the rehab process it is better to do rehab exercises at the home by your doctor's advice.
